Overview |
The
basic principle of Kord®
IT is "what
you see is what you press".
Special
hand symbols (glyphs) show you which
fingers to press for example the adjacent graphic right handprint means
press and release all but your index (first) finger. Similarly a text style
symbol like this \||.. would mean press and release
your thumb, index (first) and middle fingers. A mistake can usually be cancelled
by pressing the whole hand.
You don't have to form the chords quickly as they only activate when you release of all your fingers. For a more detailed explanation have a look at the tutorial. Due to its keyboard design chords probably won't work if you have an Apple computer.
WAP
Try out Kord®
IT on WAP enabled devices, the WetPC WAP site has some fun
stuff - over a thousand one-line jokes from our
joke server! A decision making tool for when there is no one around to
advise you, and Famous Last Words. Plus the entire site has a 3 bit chordic
interface! Of course you probably don't have a chordic
keyboard on your WAP mobile/cell phone, but you can see how it looks.
Shown here is a screenshot from a Nokia 7110.

How it works - beside the Toys link there is a symbol showing which of three buttons to press on the chordic input device, the \| means press and release two together first and \ means press one button next, this forms a couplet. The symbol would \|/ mean press all three buttons, similarly .|. would mean only the middle button. It's basically a very simple set of symbols that maps to the chord buttons. There are 49 couplets available more than enough for most WAP pages. This interface uses basic text for the symbols, however it is possible to use custom graphics as well. Features
- compact, easily operated with either hand, unaffected by movement, can
be operated eyes-free and you can even use links that are off-screen!

These demonstrations use the Shockwave plug-in, you can change
the settings for foreign keyboards left hands with the Keyboard Setup,
the settings then apply to all the demonstrations. Have a look at the Tutorial
